La SFE- english version

version française ]

The French Society for Ethnomusicology (SFE) has for mission to encourage, support and promote the reflection and the action in the field of the traditional musics of the world. The SFE was founded in 1983 and has members in France and abroad, mainly among researchers, teachers and students in ethnomusicology. This Society also brings together musicians, festival directors, representatives of different cultural institutions who work to spread the music of the word. It is a scientific society, which relies on the support of the French Ministry of Culture to carry out its research activities and scientific actions. The members of SFE position themselves as experts, active in institutions such as UNESCO, museums, festivals or in the media, and thus contribute to the knowledge and dissemination of the artistic and cultural expressions of humanity.
Activities Once a year, SFE organizes study days on a chosen topic, which are proving to be a real place for meetings and exchanges between the different actors of the ethnomusicology. In 2017, SFE initiated a nomadic seminar, in a desire to decentralize and share knowledge. The seminar is based on different universities in which ethnomusicology is taught (Saint-Etienne, Tours, Rennes, etc.). The Society supports the research of its members by providing field and multimedia publishing grants for young researchers. In partnership with the Ateliers d'ethnomusicologie (ADEM) in Geneva, SFE participates in the edition of the journal Cahiers d'ethnomusicologie, and publishes, with the Society of Ethnology, the collection of books "Men and Musics ". SFE collaborates with the Jean Rouch International Festival of Ethnographic Film (for which it awards the Bartók Prize for Best Film on Music each year), the Festival Peuples et Musiques au Cinema (Toulouse), the Cité de la Musique-Philharmonie de Paris , the musée du quai Branly, the CMTRA, and the EthnomusiKa association.
